Welcome to INSIGHT: an Integrated Network of Scientific Information and GeoHydrologic Tools.
INSIGHT provides an overview of recent water conditions across Nebraska, including the most recent hydrologic period that reflects cyclical water supplies without bias toward unusually dry or wet weather.
A statistical analysis in the INSIGHT Methods document found that a 25-year window is representative of the natural wet and dry cycles in Nebraska basins, avoids bias between those periods, and accommodates non-stationarity in climate cycles. INSIGHT uses that recent 25-year period for supply and demand summaries while also preserving older data for users who want additional historical context.
Hydrologic data are consolidated from several sources, including the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment, the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and local natural resources districts. INSIGHT organizes those data into consistent statewide, basin, and subbasin views for water supplies, water demands, nature and extent of use, and water balance.
